Georgia Tech Court Design

I had the privilege of leading the project to develop a new court design for Georgia Tech’s McCamish Pavilion. We began by exploring other collegiate, NBA, and past NCAA Final Four courts. The goal was to develop a clean design that matched our brand and would look great in-person and on television.

My team produced over 20 different variations of potential court layouts. The different concepts were placed in a deck and presented to senior administration. I met with head coaches from both basketball programs to walk them through the designs and get their seal of approval.

Previous Tech court designs leaned into the brand’s gold color that didn’t translate well to paint. For that reason, we utilized their secondary color navy for the majority of the court. In addition, I had a wordmark created that debuted on the new design. The “Georgia Tech” wordmark was produced in 2018 during a rebrand, however there were no additional wordmarks established at that time. Copying the same style, “Yellow Jackets” landed on the opposite baseline.

Once the design was finalized, I then began developing a content plan. I made it a priority to capture the install from start to finish. As the court was nearing completion, I prepared a rollout plan that incorporated both of our basketball teams and hit all digital platforms. We captured photos, videos, and drone footage of the completed court.
